Master Sgt. Bermorys Matos is the only military regional manager that covers the northeastern U.S. and European theater at the U.S. Army Medical Material Agency's field division. Additionally, this past year he fielded approximately $50 million worth of medical materiel.
As one of the senior 68J NCOs in USAMMA's Material Field Division, he fills the role as a regional manager.
Matos manages medical materiel readiness of all Army components within my region; provide year round sustainment through total package fielding's, modernization fielding's, reset fielding's as well filling critical MTOE shortages for deploying unit; review and compare unit MTOE authorizations, review unit's medical assets utilizing various software applications, to include, Property Book Unit Supply Enhanced and Logistics Information Warehouse; review past fielding information to gain knowledge and answer unit questions; and my travels take me to a multitude of states and Europe.
"There are even times when I have to travel into the Middle East. For the most part I am on the road approximately 3 weeks out of the month," said Matos.
Regional Managers work closely with internal and external organizations which include USAMMA's three maintenance depots; Tracy Maintenance Depot-California, Hill Maintenance Depot-Utah AFB, and Tobyhanna Army Depot-Pennsylvania; two Defense Depots; the Defense Depot Susquehanna and Defense Depot Utah AFB and three IDIQ (Indefinite Date Indefinite Quantity) Vendors.
USAMMA's Assembly Management Division staff is charged with ordering and building all required MES. The AMD supports the building of sets from small aid stations requirements to fully equipment CSHs. RMs work with AMD to ensure that required MES are received, right item, right place, right time. Again, this is done for all Army units.
The coordination for medical maintenance support for equipment is also apart of my job. Receiving inoperable equipment is the same as receiving zero equipment. Therefore, the RM must ensure there is medical maintenance support on location during fielding conducting Technical Inspections validating that in fact the equipment is fully operational.
Once the equipment and MES's are received, the regional manager is deployed to that units location, ensuring all items are received in the correct quantities and are fully mission capable.
"After a unit has received materiel from USAMMA, they are combat ready for any mission worldwide," said Matos.
